Canon is expanding its imagePROGRAF wide-format printer line with the addition of three new 11-color plus chroma-optimized inkjet models: the imagePROGRAF 60-inch PRO-6600 , 44-inch PRO-4600 and 24-inch PRO-2600 . These giant printers are designed for photography and fine art, and feature what Canon calls the newly developed Lucia Pro II pigment ink. It says that this new ink is designed to improve image quality compared to previous models and improves black density on art paper (which it says is achieved by changing the formula and material of the black ink). "The new ink set can also help produce and maintain prints, as crystalline wax has been added to the ink, giving the printed surface better resistance to scratching than scratching on glossy and semi-gloss media," Canon said.
"The newly Fax Lists developed Chroma Optimizer is designed to deliver a transparent, transparent ink layer that helps eliminate bronzing and reduce uneven brightness." New color support is the only trick these new printers bring to the table. All three of Canon's new imagePROGRAF wide-format printers use a new color sensing system that periodically monitors ink ejection status and optimizes "ink landing position" by "detecting deterioration of ejection status and automatically adjusting alignment." they do Canon also added an internal LED light to allow operators to preview prints and made the ink tank lids semi-transparent to make it easier to monitor the amount left in them.
The printers also have what Canon describes as an "intelligent" media handling feature that is able to detect the type of paper loaded, calculate the width and amount of paper left, plus it is able to speed up the paper delivery process relative to faster than previous models. All this is automated and therefore reduces the skill required to operate the printers. The former is designed to work best with prints that have deep blacks, while the latter has a 100% barium sulfate coating "with smooth finishes that are suitable for images with deep blacks and rich colors, darkroom prints, and fine photo reproduction." ." Although there is a lot of technology in these printers, it comes at a high price. The Pro-2600 will cost $3,392, the Pro-4600 will cost $6,784, and the Pro-6600 will be available for $13,578.
